I find inspiration just thinking about this way of greeting the day! And your children will remember it for the rest of their lives. What a wonderful gift to them, and to all of us who are privileged to hear about it.

And even on non-rooftop days, an affirmation before rising is such a good thing. I like yours. Even "thank you" is a good start when we're trying to get our eyes open.

Mildly Mystical: One of my favorite ways to begin the day that I have not done for a while is to climb onto the roof of our house before the dawn with one of my children. We would listen for the first bird and try to follow the role of the "dawn chorus" over the landscape as we watched the sunrise. If you listen very closely you can hear the wave of bird noise begin in the east and wash over you to the west. You must pay very close attention though to hear its flow. I love to reflect on the fact that this bird chorus is a never ending wave of morning joy that keeps rolling around the earth in a continuous wave. The times I have done this with my children have been memory making moments but it is not a regular practice.
My regular practice is to voice before I get out of bed when I awake, "I greet this day with joy for I am blessed." I also try to set an intention in my mind of pursuing God's desire for the day not mine.
